UnPhiltered Slot Review: Rick & Morty Megaways by Blueprint Gaming
It’s impressive the rate Blueprint churns out content. What’s more impressive is I can’t think of the last bad game they released. Oh, wait, I can. Valletta was just plain boring. However, this week we review the new Rick & Morty Megaways, which I’ve actually been playing quite a bit of on stream (Ahem, come watch), and see if its any good. I’ve not seen the TV show much, bits here and there, but luckily our marketing wizard Janine has filled me in so we can have a few jokes (Which may be a bit poor today).
First up its a Megaways game. Which is kind of the niche Blueprint has now. It’s nothing new, but it’s not quite hit its boredom level yet. It’s gone past gimmick into full-on requirement now for some slots, and this is a type of slot that needs it. The graphics, theming and music to this game are incredible. I cannot put my finger on why exactly, but the levels of everything just works. Its far from a beautiful game, I mean what slot about a genius, his kid, and a talking Pickle can be? So far, pretty damn good.
There isn’t much to go over base game-wise, it’s the standard 4 scatter trigger & cascading megaways slot, just well made. It’s no Szechuan sauce. The bonus though is pretty fun. 3 bonus options, all with some potential, but seemingly not of the level that Kong or Diamond Mine Extra can get to. Pickle Rick gets his magic… laser gun out for a bonanza style increasing multiplier set up. The Vindicators use special “V” symbols (So many Vagene jokes I can choose from but ill ignore) to collect and respin golden symbols below, think of any collector free spins game pretty much but with better music. Finally some federation wild spins, with symbols on the top slider turning matching symbols below into wilds. This one seems to be the most volatile, i think SpinTwix has had 7,000x or so from this one. Bearded bar steward.
This game also has a bonus buy. 150x stake to hit it. It’s above my ideal limit of 100x, I’d have gone with 100x for the 12 spins and then 150x for the 5-20 free spin wheel. Problem is if you do that people will just take the 12 spins and gamble the mystery anyway, so maybe thinking out loud here my idea is dumb. After a few buys of this, it’s clear this isn’t as heavily volatile as other Megaways releases from blueprint, with even a bad 5 spin bonus paying enough to not make me want to take up drug usage. To be fair if the drugs help me as much as the ones that created “Abradolf Lincler” from the show ill be rich. It’s so weird its genius.
Score – This game is very crisp. Looks, sound, theme, genre, adaptation, and the moderately new bonus round idea and twists. The bonus buy is big, but its not ridiculous or over 200x stake. The main thing is it will make people either return to or start watching the show, as I have. It’s just nuts. This is finally a good premium branded slot of recent times. “Vikings” from Netent was great, but the recent branded games have all fallen a bit flat. This one seems to have picked it right up. Its not perfect, the bonuses still feel too predictable, but it’s not that far off.
